Israeli All Star Cards - A Project of the StandWithUs MZ Teen Program


The StandWithUs MZ Teen Internship program encouraged students to create a fun and innovative campaign to teach their peers about Israel. The students were given the tools, resources, funding, and guidance to make their campaign a success.

Students from the west coast were particularly inspired by an American-Israeli hero named Michael Levin. Michael traveled to Israel as a child and made an oath to himself to return to Israel to join the army when he was old enough. He enlisted in the IDF, was accepted into an elite unit, and unfortunately killed in action during the second Lebanon War. A video, paraphernalia, and baseball cards were created in his memory, but the west coast StandWithUs MZ Teens wanted to do more to honor Michael Levin as a special hero of Israel. "After collaborating with other MZ interns, we decided on the first group of 22 Israeli heroes that we felt needed to be recognized," says Blair Becker, a junior at Yorba Linda High School in Orange County. Together, the team researched the first 22 heroes, and with the help of StandWithUs, created a deck of Israeli All Stars cards highlighting each of their stories.

"We are so excited to share the stories of the first 22 Israeli heroes with our friends and families," said Arielle Mokhtarzadeh, a junior at Milken Community High School in Los Angeles. The students would like to continue the project throughout the years, constantly adding to the list of the 22 original heroes. "Who knows," Arielle says, "maybe one of you will be an Israeli All Star one day!"

"The cards were a big hit in their debut at the Spring MZ Teen Conference in Los Angeles, where all 50 MZ Teens gathered to review their year," states Miri Kornfeld, SWU National High School Program Director.  "Demand was immediate and MZ Teens are distributing the cards at their schools and synagogues and posting them on social media.  They are easy to read and there are some surprises in the batch! We are proud of the teens' ingenuity in creating this teaching tool that is a universal way to inspire Zionism." Not just for teens, SWU is getting non-stop requests from organizations and individuals.

The 22 Israeli All Stars are politicians, soldiers, artists, inventors, and people who have made a difference. The cards include: Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin, Chaim Weitzman, Moshe Dayan, David Ben-Gurion, Theodore Herzl, Hillel Kook, Hannah Senesh, Natan Sharansky, Noam Gershony, Ilan Ramon, and Michael Levin.

Heading into its 2nd year and funded by the MZ Foundation, StandWithUs-MZ Teens Internship Program selects and trains fifty eligible high school students from across the country to become effective leaders in Israel advocacy. These exceptional students form Israel clubs in their high schools, host speakers and programs,  and are prepared to inspire others about Israel and face potential challenges on campus. http://www.standwithus.com/news/article.asp?id=2393
