StandWithUs Statement on the Proposed Peace Plan Unveiled at The White House, January 2020

January 28, 2020

Zach Rudisin, Wikipedia

Since its Declaration of Independence, which made the Jewish people free again in their ancestral home, Israel has yearned for peace with its neighbors. Despite being forced to defend themselves from war and violence brought to their borders by surrounding governments and terrorist groups, Israelis have invested in peace efforts with the Palestinians and Arab states.

Egypt and Jordan chose peace with Israel after decades of war, and many other governments in the region are now increasing their ties with the Jewish state. However, Palestinian leaders, from Haj Amin al-Husseini to Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, have consistently rejected peace plan after peace plan. Instead, they continue to promote and reward hatred and violence. The results have been tragic for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

As the U.S. administration presents a new peace plan, we know that it is ultimately up to Israeli and Palestinian leaders to resolve their conflict through direct negotiations. We firmly respect the right of Israelis to decide what they need in any peace agreement and urge Palestinian leaders to finally engage in good faith. We hope this will be a step towards a better future for both peoples.
