Goldas Balcony
In February 2009, StandWithUs and the American Jewish Committee sponsored an exclusive screening of Golda’s Balcony at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, CA. The film chronicles the life and leadership of Israel’s first female prime minister, Golda Meir (portrayed by Valerie Harper), and tells her story as the elderly woman sits on her balcony recalling her experiences. The film uses archival footage and photos to reinforce Meir’s memories about her life, her contemplation of death, and the enormity of her decisions that formed the person she was. Starting from her youth in Russia and escape from common pogroms there, the story follows her move to Milwaukee, her experience growing up in the American Jewish community, and what inspired her to devote her life to the development of the infant state of Israel.

Produced by Tony Cacciotti and David Steiner, the film was directed under the creative eye of Jeremy Kagan. The evening was presented as a joint effort between StandWithUs and the American Jewish Committee, and it was sponsored by Debbie and Naty Saidoff, Congregation Ner Tamid of South Bay, Margo and Stan Itskowitch, and Mirelle and Barry Wolfe.
