Jerusalem - Bus Tour
In January 2005, StandWithUs sponsored a tour of Bus 19 -- the Egged bus that was blown up as a result of a suicide bombing on Gaza Street in the heart of Jerusalem -- as part of the Bus 19 Project. The bombing took place on January 29, 2004, when a Palestinian terrorist detonated an explosive belt on Egged bus #19. Eleven passengers were killed and over 50 people were seriously wounded in the attack. The StandWithUs-sponsored tour brought the remains of the bus to various cities across California for people to view the destruction caused by Palestinian terrorism. As a result, the bus attracted attention and condemnation from anti-Israel activists at UC Irvine. The bus was also displayed outside the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles as part of a joint venture with the Simon Wiesenthal Center before a crowd of over 1,000 people, which included the victims’ families and 25 diplomats of various countries.
