Executive Director for the Canadian Office of StandWithUs
Location: Toronto, Canada.
OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for organizing educational programs, fundraising, and growing the organization in Canada. The ED will oversee and coordinate recruiting and training full and part time staff as needed, manage budgets, oversee the preparation of formal grant proposals as needed, and meeting and cultivating large donors. The ED is responsible for expanding our reach throughout Canada, creating awareness of the StandWithUs brand within the Jewish community as one of the most effective vehicles to inspire and educate people of all ages about Israel, and fight BDS and anti-Semitism through education, outreach and legal tools. The ED will liaise closely with the international organization to bring other successful StandWithUs programs to Canada, work with other Jewish institutions (e.g. Hillel, CIJA) to develop and implement joint initiatives. The ED is responsible to maintain a positive reputation of StandWithUs Canada as an organization that supports Israel and fights antisemitism.
Develop comprehensive fundraising strategies and relationships (cultivation, solicitation and stewardship) with the assistance of the board to meet budget objectives.
Manage the annual budget in line with the fundraising goal and board approval.
Oversee the planning and implementation of the annual gala and special events. Encourage the engagement of volunteers to help.
Coordinate one-on-one meetings with prospects and donors to cultivate relationships with large prospects ($10,000 plus) and solicit their help to identify new prospects.
Provide weekly newsletter alerts that help market our work and grow our base in Canada.
Drive the effort to keep updated donor information in the database
Encourage the use of digital media and social network where appropriate to help in marketing and fundraising efforts
Work closely at year end with Accounting and Audit to ensure financial compliance according to CRA rules for nonprofit organizations.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
Plan programs that will inform our community of the challenges facing our children and grandchildren on university campuses.
Work closely with high school department to expand the High School Internship Program.
Work closely with the Coordinators to identify candidates from Canadian campuses and Canadian high schools to be trained in Los Angeles to become educators in Canada at their schools.
PEOPLE & CULTURE
Recruit full and part time staff as needed, train them in the mission, strategies, goals and challenges faced by the organization.
Provide clear objectives to direct reports and hold them accountable to those objectives.
Mentor and provide assistance where needed as well as good communication to Campus and High School Coordinators who report directly to their department heads, to make their job more productive and fulfilling.
Drive teamwork and effective communication among staff so that everybody works towards the same goals.
Ensure delegation of tasks and follow through of staff and volunteers.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Work closely and act in accordance with the direction of the Canadian board of directors.
Balance tactfully and proactively the relationship of the Canadian board with the demand of the international organization.
Work closely with board members to ensure they meet their fundraising requirements/goals.
Ensure board meetings are properly recorded and action items are followed through
Liaise with the international organization by providing feedback and recommendations to ensure that all imported programs suitably match Canadian requirements.
Discuss ideas/initiatives with the board in a cooperative, inclusive and respectful manner.
Encourage growth mindset and be willing to accept new and different perspectives.
Facilitate in a polite and respectful manner any conversation that needs to take place to achieve consensus.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
A minimum of 4 years of successful fundraising experience at another non-profit
Knowledge of Toronto and other Canadian communities, Jewish community, culture, traditions, Jewish Communal Services, Israel and current events
Proven track record with previous non-profit and the ability to successfully raise funds, make presentations, direct mail activities, and prepare foundation requests
Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite of Products, Raiser’s Edge or other donor software
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
Comfortable with public speaking and making presentations.
High level knowledge Israel’s history, the conflict, Israel on campus…etc.
Experience in working with students is a plus.

Tech savvy with proficiency in MS Office and internet application, ability to learn new programs.
