StandWithUs Canada is a non-partisan Israel education organization that inspires and educates people of all ages and backgrounds about Israel, challenges misinformation, and fights antisemitism.
The Regional High School and CEGEP Manager will oversee our work with students of that age bracket in Montreal and Ottawa, including mentoring our StandWithUs Kenneth Leventhal and CEGEP Interns and members of our teen leadership council. You will be a member of a dynamic team of passionate professionals and work with various student and community groups to provide education and resources to high school and CEGEP students and communities. This position is suited for someone passionate about empowering the next generation with the knowledge and tools they need to tell Israel’s story and fight antisemitism as a leader and/or upstander in their school and local community—while also cultivating their own professional skills in the areas of project management, public speaking, event planning, mentorship, and networking.
The primary responsibilities include managing Montreal and Ottawa area students participating in StandWithUs Canada’s leadership programs for high school and CEGEP students. They also include helping to grow our community footprint in Montreal. This position will be responsible for liaising with community members and partners to provide proactive education throughout the community while serving as a “first responder” to issues of antisemitism and anti-Israel activity in Montreal and Ottawa.
The successful candidate will also support local educational efforts and lead outreach initiatives by working closely with partners and relevant organizations to assess and support the needs of the Montreal and Ottawa communities. Beyond their work with high school students, they will plan and facilitate programming for the community with the support of the Associate and Executive Director. The Manager will promote historically accurate education about the Jewish people and Israel, using StandWithUs Canada’s highly researched and well-resourced curricula.
The position entails monthly travel to Ottawa for two to three days. It is preferred that the candidate have a valid driver’s license, though intercity travel may be done by train.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the StandWithUs Canada High School Manager, Montreal and Ottawa is an entry-level position with opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities:
Coordinating with StandWithUs Canada staff in Montreal, as well as the national team, to support, educate, and provide resources for the Montreal and Ottawa communities.
Build meaningful community relationships with lay leaders, professionals, and community members in Montreal and Ottawa.
Present educational programs, workshops, and lead interactive discussions on topics related to Israel and combating antisemitism for high school students, professionals in the high school space, and community and parent audiences.
Provide educational resources and material to student leaders and mentor them on activism, leadership, and programming skills.
Recruit and outreach to high school students and teachers of all faiths.
Build community, develop, and cultivate professional networks with relevant organizations and professionals in the region.
Assist in planning and executing local, regional, and national conferences and summits.
Document student activities including, but not limited to, photos from events, gathering testimonials, and quantifying high school data for semester reporting.
Track and respond to antisemitic incidents in the high school space within the region.
Communicate and facilitate efforts with local and national StandWithUs Canada professionals (i.e., events’ organization and promotion).
Promote positive, factual education about the Jewish people and Israel in curricula applicable to their region at the state and local levels.
Maintain a high level of knowledge related to Israel, the Middle East, and topics related to the Jewish community with regards to antisemitism.
Qualifications:
University degree required.
Passion for educating and mentoring teens about Israel and fighting antisemitism.
Leadership experience in camp, youth movements, synagogues, and teen and young adult programs.
A background in experiential education, facilitating workshops, and public speaking required.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
A high degree of creativity and flexibility in order to meet organizational objectives.
Demonstrated project management, supervisory, and time management skills.
Computer literacy, including proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, and internet applications.
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized, reliable, team player, proactive, strong work ethic, leadership skills, and the ability to multitask.
Must have Canadian citizenship or a valid work visa. StandWithUs Canada cannot sponsor visas.
Must live in Montreal.
Knowledge of Montreal Jewish Community is an asset.
Position Start Date: July 2024 (Flexible in both directions)
Salary: Starting at $45,000, subject to experience.
