StandWithUs Launches Letter Writing Campaign for UN to Officially Repudiate Goldstone
STANDWITHUS LAUNCHES LETTER-WRITING CAMPAIGN FOR UN TO OFFICIALLY REPUDIATE GOLDSTONE REPORT

StandWithUs is launching a writing campaign to pressure the UN and American and international leaders to officially rescind the notorious 2009 UN Goldstone Report. (www.standwithus.com/app/iNews/view_n.asp?ID=1835 for sample letters and contact information for US, UN and EU officials.)

“We and others exposed the lies and bias in the Goldstone Report when it appeared. Now that Judge Richard Goldstone has admitted that the report’s defamatory accusations against Israel were false, the time has come for the UN and world leaders to repudiate it,” said Roz Rothstein, CEO of StandWithUs.

In an April 1, 2011, Op-ed in the Washington Post, Goldstone admitted that Israel had not intentionally targeted civilians, that Israel’s judiciary met the highest international standards for investigating its own military conduct, and that Israel had a right, like every other nation, to defend itself against attacks, such as those perpetrated by the terrorist group Hamas. Goldstone even conceded the accuracy of Israel’s reports about the war, including that the vast majority of Gaza fatalities were combatants from Hamas and other terrorist groups.

”Goldstone tries to defend himself by claiming that if Israel had cooperated with the investigation, the report would have been more balanced. That’s not supported by the facts. The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) directive for the investigation was so biased that even a former UNHRC chair refused to lead it. Two of the three judges publicly condemned Israel even before they became part of the mission or had collected any evidence. Goldstone himself admitted that the UNHRC has a history of systematic anti-Israel bias,” Rothstein pointed out.

“Goldstone’s team had access to Israel’s voluminous published documentation about the war but routinely discredited it and dismissed witnesses who corroborated Israel’s reports, such as British Colonel (ret.) Richard Kemp. But they accepted Hamas testimony at face value even though Hamas is a terrorist group whose founding document calls for the murder of Jews, the destruction of Israel, and cites anti-Semitic libels from the czarist forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. This was a kangaroo court from the beginning,” added Rothstein.

The Goldstone Report set a dangerous precedent by rewarding terrorists and denying democratic nations the right to defend themselves against terrorism. That’s another reason it is so critical to repudiate the report, according to StandWithUs.

The Goldstone Report was another black mark for the UNHRC, which includes some of the world’s worst human rights abusers, such as Libya, has systematically ignored gross human rights violations around the world and instead obsessively denounced democratic Israel.

“If the UNHRC does repudiate the Goldstone Report, it will be a sign that this body is beginning to see that it cannot continue its egregious prejudice against Israel and its abysmal failure to live up to its mandate. The U.S. and other democratic nations must pressure the UNHRC to start on a new path so it finally becomes the guardian of human rights it was meant to be,” said StandWithUs President Esther Renzer.

“The Goldstone Report is part of the propaganda war being waged against Israel by its enemies, the UN, and NGOs, or so-called human rights groups. They shamelessly accuse and convict Israel of heinous crimes without even waiting for evidence—and deny Israel the right to defend itself militarily and in the court of world opinion. Most of these accusations are simply lies. Look at how many times Israel’s accusers have had to issue retractions, as they did with the false claim that Israel committed a massacre in 2002 in the city of Jenin, known as the ‘suicide bombers capital.’ If the UNHRC withdraws the Goldstone Report, it will send a loud and clear message that accusations against Israel are often irresponsible and untrustworthy,” explained Rothstein.

“It is unforgivable that Goldstone participated in or allowed himself to be used for this modern blood libel and that despite what he has admitted, he refuses to ask the UNHRC to officially withdraw his report. We urge him to reconsider. He must try to undo some of the terrible damage he has done to Israel and to the very standards of international law and human rights. He should also demand that the UNHRC unequivocally denounce the dangerous anti-Israel, anti-Jewish hate training that permeates Palestinian society and perpetuates the conflict,” stated Rothstein.

The purpose of the StandWithUs letter-writing campaign is to let international leaders know how many decent people around the world demand an end to the shameless prejudice against Israel, a prejudice that is warping core values of modern civilization.
