Academy award nominated director Josh Aronson joined StandWithUs and an amicable audience on Tuesday evening for the screening of his latest film, “Orchestra of Exiles.” The documentary tells the riveting story of the Palestine Philharmonic Orchestra, founded by Bronislaw Huberman in 1936. Later renamed the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Huberman provided the means for salvation for over one thousand Jewish musicians in the peak years of Nazi Germany.

Sharing a widely unknown Holocaust story, Aronson’s delicate and passionate artistic voice reached the hearts of hundreds of viewers. A touching round of applause and an overextended Question/Answer section epitomized the gratification the viewers felt for the film.

Approximately 450 people were in attendance Tuesday at the Writers Guild Theater. The event was arranged by StandWithUs, an international, non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about Israel and anti-Semitism. Founded in 2001, StandWithUs coordinated the screening in an effort to promote “an important Holocaust story that has not been told,” said StandWithUs CEO, Roz Rothstein. “It shows how one person can make a significant difference in the world.”

Based in Los Angeles, StandWithUs offers programs, conferences, missions to Israel, lectures, screenings, and other modes of communication to ensure that Israel’s story is being told in the right way. The effort to bring Aronson and “Orchestra of Exiles” to Los Angeles is an illuminating testament to the sincerity of the organization’s mission.
