TORONTO - Members of an Israeli dialogue and outreach group participated in an entertaining and informative Purim event Sunday afternoon at Catch the Fire Church.

WordSwap is an apolitical, volunteer HESEG Foundation program made up of 17 Israeli university students – Jewish, Druze and Bedouin – who have served in the Israel Defence Forces and want to share the true story of Israel with others.

WordSwap’s visit to Catch the Fire Church on Sunday was sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem – Canada. It included music and Israeli dancing by members of the Friends of Jesus Christ Church, prayer and scripture readings about G-d’s promises to Israel and the Jewish people, information about Purim and a humourous Purim drama, capped off with punch and hamentashen for all.

WordSwap members Nachi Brodt, Ruthie Berber and Katie McCants spoke about their personal experiences in Israel and fellow member Lionel Benizri shared a few theories about why Mordechai refused to bow to Haman. Brodt, Berber, McCants and Benizri, together with their WordSwap colleagues Debby Ajdler and Chen Levy, also joined in the fun as actors in the Purim spiel which was told in delightful rhyming verse.

StandWithUs Canada, Hillel and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs were involved in bringing WordSwap to Canada and arranging their meetings with a diverse variety of groups in Toronto, London, Ottawa, Kingston and Montreal from Feb. 21 to March 3.
