19th November, 2019: Former Israeli commander and leader of mission to provide aid for Syrian civilians met by hate on UK campuses
During a five-day speaking tour in the UK, Ret. Lt. Col. Eyal Dror, has been met with hate and disturbance on UK campuses.
Protestors at Kings College London and Warwick University have attempted to storm the lecture halls interrupting Eyal Dror who has come to the UK to tell people of his experience as the leader of Operation Good Neighbour.
Operation Good Neighbour saw the Israeli Defence Forces arrange civilian aid for thousands of Syrians. Dror led 700 missions delivering medical assistance, food and clothes to Syrian civilians. With over 1400 children crossing the border to receive medical treatment in Israel’s hospitals, he also set up a field hospital.
Over the course of this operation, 1000 children were born in a safe and healthy manner, due to the cooperation between Israeli and Arab medical staff. His team later led the evacuation of the White Helmets, the renowned Syrian humanitarians forced to flee by the advancing forces of President Assad’s regime.
Dror is being hosted by StandWithUs UK, international and non-partisan Israel education organization. Its fellows on UK campuses are empowered to deliver campaigns to promote peace and co-operation. The protests from the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign at the University of Warwick saw an aggressive crowd of students disturb Dror’s lecture choosing not to listen to a leader committed to co-existence and dialogue.
Ret. Lt. Col. Eyal Dror:
“My message to the UK is one of cooperation across people of all faiths for the benefit of people in need. Christians, Muslims and Jews working side by side to deliver hope to a generation of Syrian civilians who were victims of a tragic, bloody war. This message has the power to combat prejudice. I am determined to share this message and continue to inspire people with the story of Operation Good Neighbour”
Raphael Wein, StandWithUs UK Executive Director:
“It is truly sickening to protest a presentation by an amazing humanitarian, Israeli Lt. Col. Eyal Dror who led an effort to treat 1,400 Syrian children & deliver tonnes of aid into an enemy country. Who on earth would protest that?
But these extremists won't allow dialogue, coexistence or education to take place. They don’t care about reconciliation. They don’t care about Syrians who are persecuted. They are anti-peace. Despite their efforts to shut it down, the tour continues and audiences are embracing this story of humanity in the Middle East”.
