StandWithUs Saidoff Legal sent a letter to the largest system of higher education in the nation, the California Community Colleges, seeking action after an employee repeatedly included politically charged symbols (watermelon and Palestinian flag emojis) in work email signature blocks. StandWithUs Legal requested that California Community Colleges implement a content-neutral email signature policy for all employees, restricting signature blocks to name, title, pronouns, department, school, and contact information only, and thereby instituting viewpoint neutrality and working toward a less hostile work environment.
