StandWithUs Releases New Booklet on Resurgent Anti-Semitism March, 2019

Updated: Mar 19, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Los Angeles, March 17, 2019) – StandWithUs, a non-partisan Israel education organization dedicated to educating about Israel, countering misinformation, and fighting anti-Semitism, has released a new booklet documenting the resurgent anti-Semitism of the 21st century.

“This booklet is timely as we witness anti-Semitism, forced into the fringes after the Holocaust, surging back into the mainstream,” said Roz Rothstein, CEO and Co-Founder of StandWithUs.

“Its sources are not only neo-Nazis or the KKK. It is heard in Congress, from leaders of the Women’s March, in social justice movements and through the global BDS campaign that seeks to destroy Israel, the world’s only Jewish state,” said Rothstein.

The sixteen-page booklet is titled, “Anti-Semitism: Then and Now.” It graphically demonstrates the striking similarities between 20th century genocidal Jew-hatred of Nazi Germany and today’s resurgence of anti-Semitism among the far right, far left and radical Islamists. It includes the definition of anti-Semitism formulated by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), an inter-governmental alliance of 31-member countries committed to combating anti-Semitism and preserving Holocaust memory.

“As our societies grow more polarized, even anti-Semitism has become a partisan issue with some on the left and right seeking to blame the other side for the problem. However, the reality is that this hate is rising across the political spectrum, with a resurgent white supremacist threat, the repackaging of classic anti-Semitic slurs on the far left, and a new anti-Semitism which targets the Jewish state. Part of the danger is that while this racism is easier to spot on the far right, it also comes from some activists on the far left who profess to care about human suffering,” said Rothstein.

The booklet also asks the question, “Is Anti-Zionism Anti-Semitism?” and provides examples of how and where anti-Zionist ideologies have crossed from criticism of Israeli government policies into forms of anti-Semitism that often reflect white supremacist Jew-hatred.
