(Jerusalem, Israel -- October 23, 2020) -- Since 1967, Khartoum, Sudan has been known as the place where the Arab League declared "The Three No's": No peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, and no negotiations with Israel. Today, Sudan announced that it is the third Arab nation in the last month to say "yes" to peace with Israel. The agreement, brokered by the U.S., represents a dramatic reversal in Sudanese policies and hope for a better future in this troubled region.
Sudanese forces fought with Egypt against Israel in the 1948 War, and Sudan aligned itself with Israel's enemies for 70 years. It provided funding and arms to both Hamas and Hezbollah through 2016, if not later. Today's groundbreaking agreement commits to “end the state of belligerence.”
The door is open for greater prosperity for the people of Israel and Sudan, further peace agreements in the Middle East, and tranquility in a region that has known far too much conflict.
