SWU Salutes the US Congress for Elevating the Antisemitism Special Envoy Position to Ambassador

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

On December 31, 2020, at the very last legislative session of the 116th Congress, the House of Representatives passed legislation (HB 221) authored by Rep. Chris Smith to elevate the State Department’s Anti-Semitism Special Envoy position to that of Ambassador. The bill already passed the Senate.

StandWithUs salutes the US Congress for making the fight against antisemitism a matter of priority as we enter 2021. The elevation of the position not only reaffirms the U.S. is committed to standing against antisemitism in our nation but also empowers the special envoy's mission of pressing other governments to confront Jew hatred.

We thank Congressman Chris Smith and Congressman Brad Schneider for working with leadership in both parties to pass this bill. Thank you also to Senators Marco Rubio, Jacky Rosen, and Senator Kristen Gillibrand for their hard work in securing passage on the Senate side.
