Pragmatically, Mitch recognizes that “no man is an island, entire of itself,” and that Jews, being just two percent of the U.S. population, make for a very small island. Consequently, Mitch believes, Jews must embrace non-Jews, not merely as allies but as family. Mitch also believes, based on this same pragmatism, that efforts are better spent educating the majority of non-Jews who do not have firmly held opinions on Jews and Israel instead of trying to persuade fervent anti-Semites. To this end, Mitch also supports the Murray Galinson San Diego Israel initiative which sponsors visiting professors from Israeli Universities at San Diego Universities and San Diego students visiting and studying in Israel in collaboration with Israeli students.
