STANDWITHUS PRO-ISRAEL ADS RUN ON SAN FRANCISCO BUSES
STANDWITHUS PRO-ISRAEL ADS ARE ON SAN FRANCISCO BUSES JUNE 27 THROUGH JULY 27, COUNTERING ANTI-ISRAEL ADS FOR THE SIXTH TIME
(San Francisco - July 2, 2013) -- For the sixth time in the past three years, StandWithUs (SWU) is countering anti-Israel ads with four messages that are on twelve San Francisco Muni buses beginning June 27 through July 27. The StandWithUs ads specifically address a recent anti-Israel ad campaign that mischaracterizes Israel. The SWU ads highlight Israel's diversity, religious freedoms and the benefits of the continuing Israel-U.S. relationship.
"Anti-Israel groups attempt to misinform the public in order to undermine American support for Israel. Their ads typically demonize Israel and blame it for the lack of peace. They ignore context including the continued deadly actions and ideology of Palestinian terrorist groups like Hamas," states Roz Rothstein, CEO of StandWithUs, a twelve year-old, international non-profit Israel education organization.
On his recent visit to San Francisco, South African MP Kenneth Meshoe wrote in the San Francisco Examiner that he was "deeply disturbed to learn about anti-Israel posters alleging that Israel is apartheid... "As a black South African who lived under apartheid, this system was implemented...to subjugate people of color and deny them a variety of their rights. ... Israel cannot be compared to apartheid in South Africa. Those who make the accusation expose their ignorance of what apartheid really is....In my numerous visits to Israel, I did not see any of the above. My understanding of the Israeli legal system is that equal rights are enshrined in law." http://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/pro-palestinian-ads-misrepresent-apartheid/Content?oid=2339168
Three SWU ads highlight Israel's celebration of diversity, including the first Ethiopian Miss Israel 2013 meeting the first African-American US President Obama. Another announces that in "Israel: Diversity is Real" and "Incredibly Diverse," where "Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Bahai's, Druze and secular live Equal Under the Law." It proves its point with photos of Israel's tapestry of denominations who live "Free." The fourth ad reminds viewers that the US-Israel relationship creates hundreds of thousands of jobs in America.
"StandWithUs has countered every anti-Israel ad placed in San Francisco and beyond, and will continue to do so. We cannot let hostile messages, with their deceptive, velvet-gloved rhetoric, influence unsuspecting commuters who may not know the facts. Our ads provide the needed balance and viewers deserve both sides. We will continue to stress Israel's contributions to the world. One ad campaign spoke of how Israel's technology is being used to conserve water in Sonoma County and how Israeli AIDS research has led to medical technology that targets only the HIV cells and not healthy cells,” affirms Dr. Mike Harris, StandWithUs/SanFrancisco Voice for Israel. "We want people to take a moment to think about Israel's innovations that impact issues that they care deeply about."
StandWithUs has countered anti-Israel billboard campaigns wherever they've appeared since 2007. These include five times in San Francisco, three times in New York; Denver, Washington DC, Oregon, Albuquerque, Houston (in cooperation with Bridge Houston), Chicago, Missoula and Seattle.
