StandWithUs Commends Senate for passing Anti-BDS Bill

(Washington, DC - February 5, 2019) -- StandWithUs commends the U.S. Senate for its strong bipartisan support (77-23) of The Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act of 2019 (S.1) which passed 77-23 on February 5, 2019. This legislation combines four bipartisan bills which were passed or came close to passage during the last session of congress.

"We applaud the senators on both sides of the aisle for their overwhelming support and urge members of the House of Representatives to follow in this sensible path to increased security for both the U.S. and our allies," states Roz Rothstein, CEO of StandWithUs.

The SASME Act seeks to strengthen American national security in the Middle East by bolstering security cooperation with Israel and Jordan, important allies who stand on the front lines in helping the United States to combat ISIS, al-Qaeda and other terrorist threats, and to manage other dangers in the region. It also authorizes powerful new financial sanctions against Bashar al-Assad’s barbarous dictatorship in Syria—which supports terrorists and is allied with Iran’s terrorist regime. It also reaffirms the rights of states and local governments to counter the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement’s economic warfare that discriminates against Israel.
