StandWithUs UK is extremely alarmed by the latest YouGov polling

21 March 2024

StandWithUs UK is extremely alarmed by the latest YouGov polling which found that one in twenty Britons support expelling Jews from the Middle East.

Isaac Zarfati, Executive Director of StandWithUs UK stated: ‘The Report reveals a severe lack of education, or more alarmingly- an imbalance in the education currently received by the public. There is a real need for the general British public to be properly informed of the religious and historic ties of Jews to the land of Israel- a right for any native group to affirm and actualise.’

The Report went on to state ‘out of those who say that they sympathise more with the Palestinians in the current conflict, 11% have a favourable view of Hamas [whilst] 77% of this group say they have an unfavourable view of Hamas, including 54% who have a “very” unfavourable view.’

Isaac went on to state: ‘The fact that ‘77% of [those who sympathise more with the Palestinians] say they have an unfavourable view of Hamas, is encouraging and shows the importance of education to ensure balanced debate on the current war.

Over the past year, StandWithUs UK has provided a 250% increase in our programmes across the community. Over 13,000 people took part in our educational sessions and events, and over 11 million engaged on social media in the UK. Globally, StandWithUs has reached 1 billion people. These staggering numbers show us how substantial the need is for our vital services and educational content.’

About StandWithUs UK:

StandWithUs is an international, non-profit and non-partisan Israel education organisation that works to inspire and educate people of all ages about Israel, as well as challenge misinformation and fight against antisemitism. Founded in 2010, StandWithUs UK has become a recognised support system and leading resource for students on UK campuses. We empower and energise students and communities with leadership training and educational programmes on both school and university campuses. StandWithUs informs through social media, printed materials, digital platforms, film and newsletters. The StandWithUs flagship Emerson Fellowship programme seeks to raise students into future leaders, equipped to stand strong in the face of antisemitism and anti-Zionism. We believe in the right of the Jewish People to self-determination in their historic homeland of Israel. We educate the facts in an unbiased and holistic manner, with an open mind, reflecting on views from all sides of the political, social and humanitarian spectrum whilst promoting peace. StandWithUs UK believe the current discourse surrounding Israel on campus all too often crosses the line between legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies and the dangerous, mainstream, antisemitic rhetoric which stands contrary to the IHRA definition of antisemitism. We work to educate on that distinction, encourage civil discourse on legitimate criticism of Israel, and to fight antisemitism wherever it emerges.
