STANDWITHUS INTERNSHIP/PROGRAM PARTICIPANT

CODE OF CONDUCT

INTRODUCTION

The StandWithUs Internship/Program Participant Code of Conduct is designed with the health, safety and well-being of teens, staff, advisors and participants in mind. Teens are expected to follow all program rules and to act in accordance with the values of StandWithUs so that they are seen as role models within the community at-large. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from a program and/or expulsion from the StandWithUs High School Internship entirely.

General Expectations

In addition to the StandWithUs High School Internship Program Requirements (provided to you under separate cover) and all email correspondences regarding programs, StandWithUs expects all of its High School Interns and program participants to abide by the following Code of Conduct expectations as follows:

  • Treat all teens, staff, and partners with respect.

  • Follow all program rules and attend all scheduled activities on time unless otherwise approved by staff.

  • Wear and display any StandWithUs issued nametag or other form of identification during events.

  • Proper/respectful attire must be worn at all times.

  • Shoes must be worn in public spaces.

  • Teens may not leave the program venue without prior approval by staff unless part of the StandWithUs sanctioned activity.

  • Visitors may not attend StandWithUs programs without prior approval by staff unless they are part of the StandWithUs sanctioned agenda.

  • For overnight programs, teens are assigned sleeping rooms at the start of the program and are expected to sleep in those rooms only. Teens are not permitted to be in a sleeping room assigned to any other participant without explicit permission of staff.

  • When at a conference or event, teens must report any possible property issues or damages in any location to StandWithUs staff immediately. Any unreported damages will be charged to participant.

  • Participants are responsible for securing and administering their own medications unless the rules of the program explicitly state differently.

  • Sharing of medications (prescription and over-the-counter) with others is strictly prohibited.

  • All participants and parents/guardians are expected to read and adhere to all of StandWithUs’ policies and procedures which may vary based on program.

  • Social media must be used responsibly at all times including during overnight programming.

  • Posts not in the spirit of StandWithUs policies, and/or that slander other teens, staff, volunteers, speakers/guests or from anonymous accounts that use StandWithUs images, logos or the StandWithUs name will not be tolerated.

Disciplinary Consequences

It is important to StandWithUs to help teens learn from their experience as a StandWithUs High School Intern or program participant and to gain valuable knowledge throughout the program. In situations where teens do not follow program rules or uphold the values or standards of StandWithUs, consequences will result.

Disciplinary action is guided by an organization-wide standard to ensure consistency and fairness. However, consequences vary based on circumstances. Below is a guideline. StandWithUs reserves the right to amend or modify the Code of Conduct from time to time, in its sole discretion, either in writing or verbally without prior notice.

Final action is at the discretion of StandWithUs’ professional staff. If a teen is dismissed from a program due to failure to comply with the Code of Conduct, transportation home will be at the teen’s own expense. No refunds will be issued. Additionally, if a teen is dismissed from the program, he/she will not be entitled to any refund of paid program fees or costs and all travel arrangements, costs and liabilities (including escort costs, if applicable) associated with the teen being sent home will be the sole responsibility of the teen’s parent/legal guardian. StandWithUs reserves the right to, in communication with teen’s parents/guardians, make travel arrangements for the teen’s return to their parents/guardians at the original gateway (airport) city and to place participant on a flight as an unaccompanied minor, unless other arrangements, satisfactory to StandWithUs, are made with teen’s parents/guardians.

If a teen has broken the law (for example with use of drugs during a StandWithUs program) and if there is involvement of law enforcement agencies, StandWithUs will contact the parents/guardian and not intervene in any other way unless it involves organizing a student’s travel back home to their parents (see above).

StandWithUs shall not be responsible for any damages, including but not limited to monetary or physical, caused by a teen’s behavior and/or violation of the Code of Conduct.

Engaging in any of the following behaviors during a StandWithUs program will result in immediate expulsion:

  • Any conduct that endangers the safety, health or welfare of the teen, staff, volunteers, guests, and/or others;

  • Conduct or threats of conduct that is violent;

  • Possession of fireworks, firearms or other items considered to be weapons and/or anything potentially harmful to others.

Engaging in any of the following behaviors during a StandWithUs event, meeting, or program will typically result in disciplinary consequences that may include immediate removal or suspension from participation in StandWithUs activities:

  • Theft or causing intentional damage to hotel/camp or other’s property;

  • Bullying, hazing and other actions taken with the intent of harming others;

  • Consumption or possession of illegal drugs or alcohol, tobacco or “vaping” products or materials, or any substance—even if not inherently illegal—that is, has been or can be used to create an unnatural high;

  • Unwanted or unwelcome sexual contact, whether physical or verbal;

  • Sharing of prescription/over-the-counter medication;

  • Leaving a StandWithUs program venue without permission of staff (either before, during, or after the program is under way);

  • Inviting/welcoming personal visitors to an official StandWithUs activity without permission of staff;

Engaging in any of the following behaviors during a StandWithUs meeting or program will typically result in consequences commensurate with the situation:

  • Inappropriate use of social media;

  • Not being in the room at curfew;

  • Use of vulgar language and/or inappropriate language and/or gestures;

  • Inability to follow StandWithUs program rules including tardiness/absence from scheduled activities without prior approval from staff;

  • Not treating others with respect, not wearing proper attire, not displaying an official StandWithUs nametag when requested, etc.;

  • Ordering non-Kosher food in a Kosher venue;

  • Inappropriate physical or verbal contact;

  • Carrying or displaying toy weapons;

  • Usage or possession of tobacco products and e-cigarettes.

Teens who do not uphold the values of StandWithUs in their community may be also be subject to consequences related to their participation in the StandWithUs High School Internship Program or future StandWithUs programs as appropriate based on the situation.
